From a near-death experience as a young boy, Geoff has experienced the gift of God’s presence throughout his life. His ministry started when he was 20 years old by serving on high school ministry staff at several churches in the San Francisco Bay Area of California. Upon moving to North Idaho in 2001, Geoff began full-time ministry by serving in various pastoral positions at a rapidly growing area church. Geoff also experienced significant growth in his understanding of theology and ecclesiology while obtaining his Masters of Theology at Whitworth University in Spokane and while working toward a DMin at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.
Geoff has been a part of three church-plants, most recently with Chi Rho Community in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Chi Rho was started as a community in 2012, but it looks very different today. “Creating authentic community where being dedicated to living the Christ-life together is very difficult, especially in such a highly churched area as Idaho! We started by renting space, attracting a crowd, and relying mostly on engaging exegetical teaching. But we quickly realized this was not particularly unique, and it wasn’t creating disciples – we were just another flavor of ‘Sunday.’” Chi Rho pivoted and focused exclusively on discipleship and “being the church.” Meeting in homes, it’s closer to what the founding team had in mind and real life-change is taking place. Geoff continues to lead this community and brings this experience into his leadership of Communitas.
