The Martinez Family

During E’s time in Bible college, he served three years in a church revitalization project, doing pioneer work since the church had only three members. While at Bible college, he felt God calling him to serve in Europe. So, after three years studying theology, he moved to the UK to serve in a church in England—what was supposed to be one year turned into four. He also got the opportunity to study at a Bible college in Scotland before moving to Ukraine, where he met R while serving at an international church plant in Kyiv.

After R finished university, she wanted to serve abroad doing something of eternal value. She had already been to Europe several times and saw the need for the Gospel to reach Europe (again). So, when she was presented with the opportunity to do an internship in Kyiv, Ukraine, she was eager to go. Two days after arriving in Kyiv, she met E.

In Kyiv, E and R served primarily international university students through a weekly club, group events, one-on-one meetings, and Bible studies with those who were interested in learning more about God. They left Ukraine and got married in 2017. Since then, they have had two children and have moved around, living near both of their families, but never losing their desire to someday return to Europe.

In 2022, they began to explore the possibility of returning to serve in Europe again to tell people about Jesus. Their original desire was to return to Ukraine, but that door closed for them when the war started. After a two-and-a-half-month trip around Europe in late 2022, God put Poland on their hearts, specifically the city of Krakow.

They are excited as they look forward to living in Poland and serving both the Polish people and people from other countries (like them) who move to Krakow. They are looking forward to getting involved in the life of the city, getting to know other people in a meaningful way, and having Gospel conversations as they intentionally do life alongside others. E and R resonate deeply with the mission of Communitas to start and shape communities of faith that love like Jesus in their neighborhoods. The practicality and relational parts of that mission are exciting!

My favorite job post-college was being a barista at a local coffee shop. I love coffee, get-to-know-you conversations, and making people feel seen and valued – it was the perfect combination!
