Growing up in The Netherlands, Remko was raised in a Christian home attending the local Dutch Reformed (Gereformeerd) Church. He came to a living faith while studying for his MBA in the USA. Upon returning He joined an Evangelical/Pentecostal church where he was active in many volunteer roles and played in a Christian rock band, while pursuing a secular business career. After 12 years he felt God leading him out of his church and Remko enjoyed a break from ‘church’ and his many volunteer roles.
After some time Remko joined Crossroads Int’l Church in the Hague and soon after, felt God leading him to take a step back from his work and do a DTS with YWAM in the UK. This was the beginning of a bi-vocational season, where Remko was a self-employed coach/consultant and entrepreneur, while co-leading Crossroads The Hague for 4 years and founding Crossroads Leiden and leading it since 2008. Over the years Remko has also taken on leadership roles within Communitas, where he now serves as the Benelux Advancement Leader and Western Europe Coordinator.
