Mauricio Chenlo

If you ask Mauricio Chenlo what has shaped his life, he won’t begin with a résumé. He’ll tell you about God’s mission.

Born and raised in Argentina and now living in Raleigh, North Carolina, Mauricio has spent more than 35 years helping people discover their place in God’s work. His ministry has taken him from indigenous communities in the Amazon and the Andes to churches across North and Latin America, always with the same conviction: every follower of Jesus is sent to make disciples, plant communities of shalom, and participate in God’s mission of reconciliation.

As Chief Mobilization Officer for Communitas International, Mauricio helps identify, encourage, equip, and send the next generation of missionary leaders. His work brings together church planting, leadership development, peacebuilding, and cross-cultural mission, with a particular passion for Latin America, indigenous peoples, and emerging mission movements.

Before joining Communitas, Mauricio served with Mennonite Mission Network, where he led the SENT (Enviados) mobilization initiative and developed training in disciple-making and reconciliation. He later served as Executive Director of the Episcopal Farmworker Ministry in North Carolina, advocating for migrant farmworkers and building partnerships across churches and community organizations.

Mauricio holds a Bachelor’s degree in Bible and Theology from the Buenos Aires Bible Institute and a Master’s degree in Peace Studies from Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary. He is an ordained minister in Mennonite Church USA.

Mauricio and his wife, Sara, have been married for more than 40 years. They have three children and two grandchildren who bring great joy to their lives.

Fun fact: When he’s not meeting with church leaders or mentoring missionaries, you’ll often find Mauricio on a golf course. He enjoys the challenge of the game, the conversations it creates, and the reminder that growth—both in golf and in ministry—comes one swing at a time.

“Shalom is our calling. Multiplication is our strategy. Jesus is our life.”

Mauricio passionate about helping people discover their place in God’s mission. For more than 35 years, he’s had the privilege of serving churches and leaders throughout the United States and Latin America, mentoring emerging leaders, building bridges across cultures, and equipping disciple-makers. He especially enjoy walking alongside indigenous leaders and church planters as they bring the hope of the gospel to their own communities. When he’s not traveling or meeting with ministry partners, you’ll usually find him spending time with my family or enjoying a round of golf. Mauricio believe every follower of Jesus is sent, and there’s nothing more exciting than helping people say “yes” to God’s call.
