Meet the first couple ever to have met and married after each had served several years with Communitas!
Al and Elizabeth each grew up in strong Christian homes and churches, learning from early ages the importance of devoting one's life to God. Al joined Communitas in 1994 and moved to Berlin, Germany, as part of a church-planting team for which he eventually became the team leader in 1997. In 2001, he took on a new role as Communitas’ Director of Europe Operations and moved to The Hague, The Netherlands. Elizabeth joined Communitas in 2003 and moved to Florence, Italy, in 2004 to pioneer with a church-planting team. While in The Netherlands, Al faced the unthinkable tragedy of losing his wife of 17 years to cancer, but he remained in The Netherlands, continuing to serve with Communitas. When Elizabeth moved to The Netherlands to work in Staff Care for Communitas, God gave both of them the biggest surprise of their lives when He ignited a strong love between them. They married in February 2008, and since 2010, they’ve lived in Madrid, Spain. Both serve on the Staff Care and Development Team for Communitas. Al is the Director of Staff Care and Development and is grateful for a growing team! Al and Elizabeth have three children: Daniel (living in Arizona), Bobby (in the U.S. Army), and Katie (studying to be a nurse in Texas).
Here's what they have to say about why they do what they do:
"We are both passionate about Staff Care and Development for Communitas because we want to see healthy staff, leaders, and teams planting churches. We’re eager for God to use us to reach, disciple, and develop missional leaders who will impact people in their cities with the message of Jesus Christ! " (Summer 2017)
